These original baskets are made by the Harris family in Washington, LA. The Harris Family baskets are displayed at the Smithsonian and many other Folk Life Museums throughout the world. The baskets are made from split oak with no glue or nails and last for hundreds of years - I have my Grandmother's egg basket which she received as a wedding gift in 1892. She used it everyday and it is still sturdy and has a wonderful patina. I use it for fruit or flowers.
Many of the old baskets were bushel size and used to store corn and cotton. Smaller baskets were made for vegetables and eggs, etc.
The original baskets on this site are signed by Edward Harris Sr. and dated 9-17-83.
